Associate Minister –  Position Description

Role Summary

The Associate Minister role supports the mission and vision of St. Mark’s by developing ministries of worship, care and discipleship for families, as well as assisting the Senior Minister in the pastoral work of the church.

The Associate Minister will be an ordained minister (priest or transitional deacon) in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, and will be remunerated according to diocesan guidelines.

The role will commence in February 2019, or earlier by negotiation. For a curacy, this is a full-time position. Part-time by negotiation is a possibility for an appropriately qualified Senior Associate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading in the planting of a new congregation for St. Mark’s, at an alternative time to our Sunday morning services. Includes gathering and equipping a core team as well as developing a strategy for implementation.
  • Overseeing the activities of St. Mark’s relating to the discipleship and care of children, youth and their families, and developing appropriate strategies for intergenerational ministry in line with the St. Mark’s Vision. Includes volunteer recruitment, management and development for ministry teams.
  • Working alongside other staff in outreach and mission activities and projects.
  • Undertaking service leading and preaching duties at regular services as required.
  • Performing occasional services (baptisms, weddings, and funerals) under the direction of the Senior Minister.
  • General pastoral care of the members of St. Mark’s as part of the pastoral care staff and team.

 

General Expectations

  • The leadership of St. Mark’s expects all staff to be committed to personal and professional development, and will provide opportunities and support to engage with these areas as appropriate.
  • The successful applicant should support the mission, vision and strategic directions of St. Mark’s.
  • The Associate Minister will work as part of the staff team at St. Mark’s and be accountable for positive participation in staff meetings and shared initiatives.
  • A current Working with Children Checkand National Police Checkwill be required, as well as commitment to the Child Safety Code of Conduct of the Diocese of Melbourne.

Desirable Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in ministry and theology.
  • Excellent volunteer management skills and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary trends and practices in intergenerational ministry.
  • Well-developed skills in work with children and youth, and their families.
  • Able to work independently and show initiative.
  • Able to develop and maintain appropriate pastoral relationships.
  • High-level skills in preaching and communication within a church context.
  • Ability to lead a variety of traditional and contemporary Anglican worship services.
